Online brands on real shelves down the block

Brickline places products from online-only brands in independent shops. I designed the brand identity, and the website.

ONE TEAM, ONE PACKAGE: IDENTITY, AND WEBSITE

ProcessThe brand sets the palette and the brick metaphor, the site explains the model to two audiences, the small brand and the brick and mortar shop.

  1. 01

    Brand identity

A wordmark, a brick-red and charcoal palette and a Montserrat type system.

  2. 02

    WEBSITE

A bento homepage with a brand and shop toggle, how it works, the deal for each side and a shop finder.

Website concept

The homepage is a grid of rounded tiles separated by 8px joints, like coursing in a brick wall. The hero switches between online brands and shop owners with one toggle.

Below the grid, plain sections explain how it works in three steps, what each side gets, how the shelf card works, and where to find a shop. A short form requests a match by neighborhood.

StrategyTwo audiences need different reasons to join. Brands want a storefront without a lease. Shops want new inventory and income without the risk, this provides a path to both.

Brand identity

Brick red and charcoal, set in Montserrat. The red comes from the wall, the charcoal from the mortar, and the light grays from the sidewalk in front of the shop.

The mark and the layout share one idea: small, solid units that fit together with even joints. The same rounded tiles appear on the site, the shelf card and the display unit.

StrategyTwo audiences see the brand in different places, a web page and a shop counter. A simple palette and one typeface hold up in both.

Keep it local.

  1. In the shopPick it up. Try the product, take a card.
  2. At homeGo to the link, enter the code. The shopper gets 10% off.
  3. AfterThe brand ships it free. The shop’s share is credited to the shop.

Outcome

A concept that can be explained in one sentence and seen in three places: on the web, in a shop and on a card.

Identity
Palette, type and layout rules that carry across screen and print.
Website
An interactive marketplace for both audiences.
TESTS
Shop sign-ups per neighborhood, card redemption rate and repeat orders from card codes.

LAUNCHING A STORE FRONT OR MARKETPLACE?

I can shape the brand, design the site for each audience and make the printed pieces that connect the two.
